A troubling audio recording between Tyreek Hill and his fiancée, Crystal Espinal, has been made public and suggests that the wide receiver may have been complicit in the breaking of his 3-year-old son’s arm. The content of the recording was troubling enough for his employer, the Kansas City Chiefs, to suspend Hill. The wide receiver, however, is heard on the recording as denying any wrongdoing.
The Recording And Investigation
As reported by KCTV5, the recording was made in March by Espinal as the couple walked through Dubai’s international airport. According to KCTV, the recording was described as an “insurance policy” for Espinal.
In the audio recording, the couple appear to be discussing a police investigation related to the alleged abuse of their son. Here are the highlights of the recording:
- Espinal asks, “Why does (the unnamed child) say, ‘Daddy did it?'” and later states that “a 3-year-old is not going to lie about what happened to his arm.”
- Hill declared that “I’m the one that gets physical with him.“
- Espinal states that “he is terrified of you,” to which Hill responds by ominously declaring to Espinal, “You need to be terrified of me, too, b—-.“
- Hill denies breaking his son’s arm.
In announcing that criminal charges would not be filed against Hill or Espinal for a lack of good evidence, District Attorney Steve Howe stated that his office did “believe a crime” had occurred. While it remains unclear, Espinal may have suggested she did not cooperate with authorities when she said this on the tape: “I rode for you against that detective and the CPS (child protective services) people.“
KCTV5 has also reported that “both parents have lost custody as a result of the separate Child Protective Services investigation through the Kansas Department of Children and Families or DCF” and that “Hill currently has a no-contact order with his 3-year-old son.”
