A mentally ill man who was buried alive in a landslide was rescued by troops using a bomb-sniffing dog, Indian military chiefs revealed.
Pradeep Kumar, who was known in the Jammu-Kashmir region for wandering along a highway, was buried there overnight Tuesday after heavy rains triggered a landslide.
An army unit patrolling the road the next day along with a sniffer dog named Ajaxi discovered Kumar, and managed to dig him out.
The scene shows the soldiers working to free Kumar, who appears dazed.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital, NDTV reported, but was unable to speak due to the shock of the accident.
Multiple landslides hit the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway last week amid heavy rains, completely severing the road.
Army units were brought in to clear the route, which is the only all-weather highway that links Kashmir with the rest of India.
Ajaxi was awarded a commendation disc for her work, along with her handler and their commanding officer who called for help.
